Kőrispatak’s straw hat museum

Szőcs Lajos from Kőrispatak, made the first straw hat museum in the country.

The straw hat museum is in a renewed peasant house. In the first room you can see different types of straw hats from the country, in the middle room are different straw ornaments, and in the last room you can see the process of straw hat making, from the harvest, to the straw hat wearing. Also here you can see and try the country’s biggest straw hat. The hats diagonal is 2 meter, and it weights 2, 65 kg.

In the museums yard you can admire the amazing rock collection. There are over 600 nature made rocks with different interesting shapes. The shapes of the rocks remind you of a duck, a pigeon or a hat.

The museum can be visited every day. The entrance is free.

Summer programs

The straw hat museums usual program is straw spinning and straw hat making camps, where the campers can learn the basics of straw hat making and the secrets of straw spinning. The camps are held in Kőrispatak. The teaching of straw spinning takes place in the museums yard. The raw materials are assured by the museum for the participants of the camp.

During this camp you can learn the spinning patterns of straw hats, Christmas decorations as well as the making of other tools and ornaments.

During the camp we organize other leisure activities.

Accomodation

The campers can use our guesthouse or our wood houses. The wood houses have bathrooms and toilets. In our guesthouse can be lodged 50 persons. The wood houses are designed for two or three persons.

The guests will have the opportunity to taste the traditional székely food.

Kőrispatak is the ideal place for all those who want to know more about the secler village’s life and its traditions.
